Pete Black Plumbing restores water flow to the Brighton Dairy Queen

Pete Black Plumbing recently helped the local Dairy Queen in Brighton reconnect to city water and drainage, ensuring smooth operations for the beloved ice cream shop. After years of wear from washing down countless ice creams, the underground plumbing needed serious attention. Pete Black Plumbing stepped in to restore the drain lines, keeping them clear and functional. Using their Hydro-Vacuum truck, they precisely excavated around the existing city water infrastructure outside the business, leaving a minimal dig footprint. Inside, they carefully dug into the floors and replaced the old infrastructure with new PVC pipes, ensuring a long-lasting and efficient solution. Part of our company mission is to partner with local businesses, offering water system solutions in order to keep our community strong and the water flowing.

Tips for preparing your residential plumbing in a cold Michigan Climate:

  • Insulate your pipes: Locate and insulate pipes that are most likely to freeze, such as those near crawl spaces, attics, or outer walls. You can use pipe sleeves, heat tape, heat cable, or newspaper. Ideally, water infrastructure is not installed in your home or businesses outer walls, pipes should be located in the interior walls of your home.
  • Keep the house warm: Keep the thermostat at a constant temperature of at least 55°F to prevent pipes from freezing white you’re away. You can also open cabinet doors in the kitchen and bathroom to allow warm air to circulate to the walls containing pipe.
  • Disconnect hoses: Disconnect garden hoses and shut off and drain the water from pipes leading to outside faucets as winter approaches. Michigan winters will freeze everything! This also goes for sprinkler systems.
  • When you’re away: If you’re going to be away from home for an extended period, you can shut off the water supply at the water meter and drain all the pipes. You can also ask a friend or neighbor to check your house daily to make sure it’s warm enough.
